Abu Dhabi is gearing up to host the highly anticipated One Run Half-Marathon, recognized as the world's largest half marathon race, on Al Hudayriat Island this Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 7:15 PM. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in collaboration with the Hero League, the event is expected to draw a diverse array of participants, including citizens, residents, and visitors.
Participants can choose from various race distances, including the half marathon, 10km, 5km, and 1km, catering to individuals of all ages and fitness levels. This inclusive approach aligns with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council's mission to promote active and healthy lifestyles and foster a robust sporting culture across all segments of society.
The partnership with the Hero League underscores the council's commitment to supporting community initiatives and events that integrate sports into daily life, enhancing the overall quality of life index in the emirate. Simultaneously, the eighth edition of the One Run Half-Marathon will see over 160,000 runners participating in Russia, with an additional 30,000 runners joining from countries including Armenia, Tajikistan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, China, Brazil, Serbia, Cameroon, Bahrain, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar, and Egypt.
Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with the Hero League and highlighted the significance of Al Hudayriat Island as a premier sporting destination in Abu Dhabi. He reiterated the council's dedication to integrating sports into daily life, enriching the community's overall well-being.
Ksenia Shoigu, a member of the One Run organizing committee, reflected on the event's remarkable journey since its inception in 2017. With thousands of participants joining annually, the race has earned two entries in the Guinness Book of World Records. Notably, 2023 marked the first time the race was held outside Russia, and in 2024, it will be organized simultaneously in 15 countries, showcasing its global growth and increasing participation rates. This achievement serves as motivation for continued dedication to fostering athletic excellence and community engagement.
