Abu Dhabi has officially announced the extension of the traditional wild hunting season, commonly known as falconry, running from 20 October 2025 until 5 February 2026. The move, guided by Resolution No. (7) of 2025, aims to preserve one of the UAE’s most cherished cultural traditions while ensuring it is practiced responsibly.
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) confirmed that only licensed falconers are permitted to participate during this season. Hunting is strictly regulated, with falconry allowed in open areas and restricted to at least two kilometres away from roads, protected zones, forests, petroleum and military facilities, residential areas, and other prohibited locations.

Applicants must be UAE citizens aged 18 or older, and their falcons must be registered in the Falcon Registration System of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). Licenses are obtained via the Abu Dhabi Unified Government Services System, TAMM, either through the smart app or website, and require a fee of AED 127 per season. Once approved, falconers receive an electronic license, valid only for the 2025-2026 season, allowing hunting from sunrise to sunset.
This extension reinforces EAD’s commitment to promoting falconry among Emirati youth and supporting its preservation as a living cultural practice. By collaborating with partners such as the Emirates Falconers' Club, the agency ensures that falconry continues to thrive under strict environmental standards and international best practices, blending tradition with sustainability.
