The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders won their second game in the ILT20 Season 3 by beating Gulf Giants by 37 runs at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. Despite a great bowling performance by Aayan Afzal Khan, who took 4 wickets for 16 runs, a new record for UAE players in the DP World ILT20, the Knight Riders managed to score 176/9, thanks to Michael Pepper's strong half-century.

The Gulf Giants’ batting started poorly, losing both openers early. David Willey got rid of Adam Lyth in the first over, and Ibrar Ahmad took captain James Vince’s wicket for 14 runs in the fourth over. At the end of the powerplay, the Giants were at 40/2. Their situation got worse as Jordan Cox was out for 10 runs, and Ibrahim Zadran was bowled by Sunil Narine for 24 runs. The Giants were 62/4 after 10 overs, and even though Gerhard Erasmus and Shimron Hetmyer tried to build a partnership, Hetmyer was out for 20 runs. Erasmus was then dismissed for 24 runs. With the score at 96/6, the Giants found it hard to recover.
The Giants' chase ended when Mark Adair was dismissed for 19 runs. They finished with 139/8, 37 runs short of the target. The Knight Riders started well in the powerplay, scoring 60/2. Kyle Mayers and Andries Gous added 19 and 17 runs, but they were both out soon. Michael Pepper, batting at number four, played aggressively, hitting three boundaries in a row off Mark Adair. He reached his half-century in 31 balls, hitting six fours and a six. He and Joe Clarke added 50 runs in just 33 balls. However, Aayan Afzal Khan's excellent bowling stopped the Knight Riders’ big score, taking four wickets, including Clarke (24), Alishan Sharafu, Andrew Russell (12), and Sunil Narine.
In the final overs, Pepper was caught behind off Adair for 57. Evans, Holder, and Willey added a few runs before Blessing Muzarabani took two wickets. The Knight Riders finished with 176/9.
Michael Pepper, who was named Player of the Match, said, “The ball came on well when I went in. It was easy to hit early on, but as the game went on, the pitch became slower and turned more. It's important to know your areas and play well. Our team has a lot of depth in batting, and everyone can hit big shots, but it’s up to the batters to score the runs.”
Knight Riders' captain Sunil Narine said, “We always tried to think ahead and keep everyone involved. After a good start, we could have reached 200 runs, but losing wickets in clusters stopped us. Our batting depth is good, as some players who normally bat higher are in lower positions. The guys are ready to perform wherever they bat.”
The Knight Riders’ win showed they have the talent to keep winning, even though they faced some challenges during the game. They will be looking forward to their next match in the tournament.
