A senior heart surgeon, Dr Jeremy London, who has been treating heart patients for more than 25 years, has shared five simple daily habits that he believes can help people live longer and stay healthier. He shared these habits in a video posted on Instagram, where he explained that small changes in daily life can make a big difference in our health and lifespan.
Dr Jeremy said that the heart is one of the most important organs in our body because it pumps blood to every part of the body. This blood carries oxygen and nutrients that keep us alive. If the heart is not healthy, the body cannot work properly. So, taking care of the heart is also taking care of our life.
The first habit he discussed was exercise. According to him, exercise is the number one key to living longer. He said that a mix of strength training and aerobic exercise works best. Strength training keeps the muscles strong, while aerobic exercise supports the heart and lungs. Even simple activities like walking, light jogging, yoga, or cycling can help.
The second habit is eating a healthy diet. Dr Jeremy advised people to think carefully about the food they eat. He said meals should include protein, fibre, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats. He explained that food is like fuel for the body, and the body’s cells depend on it to work well. Eating good food helps the body stay strong and fight disease.
The third habit he shared was rest and recovery. He said that the body repairs itself when we sleep. Getting proper sleep every night is very important. He also suggested taking short breaks during the day to relax and calm the mind. Rest helps reduce stress, which protects the heart.
The fourth habit Dr Jeremy highlighted was building meaningful relationships. He explained that life feels healthier and happier when we spend time with people who care about us. Positive friendships and family support reduce stress and improve emotional health. He said it is important to stay connected with people who bring joy and peace into our lives.
The fifth and final habit he mentioned was sauna and heat therapy. He said that spending time in a sauna, when done safely, may help the body relax, improve blood flow, and reduce the risk of heart problems and memory-related diseases. However, he advised people to follow proper instructions and not overdo it.
These five habits may sound simple, but Dr Jeremy said they are powerful when practiced every day. They help the heart stay strong, support mental health, improve sleep, and make the body work better overall.
This information is meant to guide people toward healthier lifestyle choices. It does not replace advice from a doctor. People with medical conditions should always talk to a healthcare professional before making major changes to their diet, exercise routine, or health practices.
