4.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Pakistan at 10 km Depth

A moderate earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale shook parts of Pakistan in the early hours of Saturday, October 4, 2025, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The tremor struck at 01:59 AM IST, with its epicenter located at latitude 28.30°N and longitude 65.25°E, at a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers beneath the Earth’s crust. Shallow quakes often feel more intense on the surface, though there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The NCS confirmed the details in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “EQ of M: 4.5, On: 04/10/2025 01:59:40 IST, Lat: 28.30 N, Long: 65.25 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Pakistan.”

This incident follows another tremor reported earlier in the week. On October 2, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recorded a magnitude 3.2 earthquake near Karachi, with tremors felt seven kilometers northwest of Malir at 09:34 AM (local time). That quake also occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Although both quakes were of moderate intensity, the back-to-back events have drawn attention to seismic activity in the region. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, but so far, there have been no reports of significant structural damage.

Residents in the affected areas described the shaking as brief but noticeable, with some stepping outside their homes during the tremor. Emergency services remain on alert as a precautionary measure.
