A minor earthquake measuring 3.6 magnitude struck near Vallejo, California, on Thursday afternoon, sending light but noticeable tremors across multiple Bay Area cities. The quake occurred at 12:41 PM Pacific Time, with its epicenter located approximately 2 miles south of Vallejo, according to initial seismic data.
Residents across Berkeley, Benicia, Hercules, and Richmond reported feeling short, sharp vibrations, though there were no immediate reports of damage or injury. People in nearby neighborhoods described the shaking as a quick jolt, followed by brief ground movement.
Seismologists noted that preliminary readings may be updated as more data is collected and additional shake-intensity reports are reviewed. Minor quakes of this magnitude are common in the region, but they often serve as a reminder of the seismic activity along California’s complex fault system.
Authorities emphasized that while the quake was small, residents should remain aware of earthquake safety protocols and ensure that emergency kits and preparedness plans are up to date.
