In India, more and more people are turning to weight-loss medicines like Ozempic and Mounjaro. These drugs were first made to help people with diabetes. But now, many are using them only to lose weight quickly. Celebrity fitness trainer Yasmin Karachiwala says this trend is worrying and can be harmful.
India has one of the largest numbers of overweight adults in the world. Many people want fast results. This is why medicines like Ozempic and Mounjaro are becoming very popular. But Yasmin, who has been in the fitness field for 30 years, says that using these medicines without proper medical need can cause serious side effects, especially loss of muscle.
She explains that some people who only want to lose 4 or 5 kilograms are also taking these injections. They want quick results without changing their lifestyle. Yasmin says this is not safe because the body may lose muscle instead of fat. Muscle is very important for strength, balance, and bone health. If muscle becomes weak, bones also become weak. This can lead to problems like osteoporosis when a person gets older.
Yasmin agrees that these drugs can help some people. For example, they can be useful for people with diabetes or those who are very overweight and have already tried many things. In such cases, doctors may suggest these medicines. But she believes that people should not take them just to look thinner quickly.
Instead of depending on quick solutions, Yasmin suggests simple and healthy habits. She says people should do weight training to build muscle. They should also eat enough protein in their meals and drink enough water. These steps help the body become stronger and healthier in the long run.
Yasmin says building muscle takes time and effort. It is not easy, but it is important for a healthy body. Losing fat is much easier than gaining muscle. So if someone loses muscle because of weight-loss drugs, it can harm their body later.
She shared this message during the launch of her Yasmin Karachiwala Body Image studio in New Delhi. Yasmin is known for training famous Bollywood celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Kriti Sanon, and Ananya Panday. Her message is clear: health should come before quick results.
