The Minnesota Wild continued their impressive form as they defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-0 on Sunday, led by an outstanding performance from goalie Jesper Wallstedt. Wallstedt made 32 saves, recording his third shutout of the season and fourth in just 13 career starts. His strong display was key in helping Minnesota extend their winning streak to five games while maintaining an eight-game point streak with a 7-0-1 record.
Wallstedt was flawless in the third period, turning aside all 10 shots from the Jets to secure Minnesota’s second consecutive shutout. This victory marked the Wild’s fourth shutout in their last seven games and their fifth overall this season, the best in the NHL so far.
The scoring opened in the second period when Danila Yurov converted a pass from Yakov Trenin. Trenin won a battle for the puck against Nino Niederreiter and quickly fed Yurov, who scored from close range at 8:23. This goal was Yurov’s third of the season and his first since November 7. Minnesota became the fifth NHL team in the past 30 years to start the scoring in 12 straight games, continuing their strong offensive trend.
Shortly before the end of the second period, defenseman Brock Faber doubled the lead with a short-handed goal. Marcus Johansson carried the puck on a 2-on-1 rush before passing to Faber, who beat Eric Comrie for Minnesota’s second short-handed goal in three games. The Wild displayed excellent teamwork and precision in capitalizing on opportunities.
Kirill Kaprizov added the final goal in the third period, scoring his co-leading 13th goal of the season. Jake Middleton’s sharp feed from the point set up Kaprizov, who finished from close range at 6:29 of the third period, sealing the 3-0 win for the Wild.
Minnesota’s victory was also significant as it ended a nine-game losing streak against Winnipeg and avenged an earlier 4-3 overtime loss to the Jets on October 28. The team’s strong defensive and offensive balance was evident throughout the game, with Wallstedt making crucial saves while players like Yurov, Faber, and Kaprizov provided finishing touches on offense.
Nico Sturm returned to action for the Wild after back surgery, recording three hits in his season debut. His performance added depth to Minnesota’s lineup and contributed to their continued success.
For Winnipeg, goalie Eric Comrie stopped 27 shots but could not prevent the defeat. Mark Scheifele reached a personal milestone, playing his 900th career NHL game. Despite efforts from players like Scheifele, the Jets struggled to score against Wallstedt’s solid goaltending and Minnesota’s disciplined defense.
The Wild’s combination of strong goaltending, aggressive defense, and timely goals helped them secure the win and extend their dominance this season. The team now looks forward to building on this momentum as they continue their campaign in the NHL, aiming for more victories and strong playoff positioning.
