Ukraine has refused to withdraw its draft resolution, and now the United Nations General Assembly is set to vote on it on February 24. This date marks the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
As the war between Russia and Ukraine enters its third year, Ukraine has put forward a resolution at the UN. This resolution, which is backed by European countries, calls for Russian troops to immediately leave Ukrainian territory. However, reports say that the United States has asked Ukraine to withdraw this resolution because the US has submitted its own version.
This situation has created tensions between US President Donald Trump’s administration and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The disagreement has also divided world powers, with the US and Russia on one side and Europe and Ukraine on the other. According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), this is one of the clearest signs of increasing tensions between America and its European allies.

A document reviewed by WSJ shows that US diplomats have concerns about Ukraine’s resolution. They have told their European counterparts that if Ukraine moves forward with the resolution, the US will oppose it. The American diplomats have also asked European countries to convince Ukraine to withdraw it.
At first, American officials were working with Ukraine on the resolution and suggesting small changes. But by Friday, Washington changed its approach and directly asked Kyiv to withdraw it. However, Ukraine refused to do so.
Since Ukraine has decided to continue, the UN General Assembly, which has 193 member countries, will now vote on Ukraine’s resolution regarding Russia’s troop withdrawal on February 24, according to two European diplomats.
Meanwhile, the United States has also submitted its own resolution regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. The UN General Assembly is expected to vote on this US proposal on Monday. Additionally, the Trump administration is pushing for another vote in the UN Security Council. For this month, the Security Council is being led by China.
