UAE Reaffirms Solidarity with Kuwait Over Maritime Rights

ABU DHABI, 22 February 2026 – The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its full and unwavering solidarity with the State of Kuwait in all measures it undertakes to safeguard its legitimate rights and national interests. The UAE stressed that it stands firmly with Kuwait against any actions that may infringe upon its sovereignty or threaten its territorial integrity.

The UAE expressed deep concern regarding the list of coordinates and the map submitted by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations. According to the statement, these submissions could have serious implications for Kuwait’s rights over its maritime areas and territorial waters, including the regions of Fisht Al-Eid and Fisht Al-Eij.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UAE emphasized the importance of Iraq taking into account the historic, fraternal, and long-standing ties that bind the two neighboring countries and their peoples. The Ministry underlined that such sensitive matters should be approached with responsibility, seriousness, and mutual respect.

The UAE called for the issue to be resolved in full accordance with international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982. It also stressed the need to respect existing bilateral agreements, understandings, and memoranda signed between the concerned parties.

Furthermore, the Ministry urged that all related matters be addressed through constructive dialogue and diplomatic channels. It emphasized that peaceful engagement and cooperation are essential to maintaining regional security and stability, and to strengthening trust and good relations among countries in the region.
