UAE Debuts National Pavilion at Moscow Interior and Design Week

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is taking part in Moscow Interior and Design Week with its own national pavilion for the very first time. This big event started today and will continue until 25th May at the Central Exhibition Hall (Manège) in Moscow, Russia.

This design week brings together more than 1,100 companies from Russia and around the world. All of these companies are experts in furniture and interior design.

The UAE pavilion is being supported and managed by the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council. It shows off a unique exhibition that mixes traditional Emirati crafts with modern design ideas. Visitors can see beautiful handmade items made by talented Emirati women. The collection includes things like:

• lamps,

• clay pots,

• vessels made from Murano glass,

• chairs made of painted steel,

• and fruit baskets made from treated plant-based leather.

These items show how old craft techniques can be used in new and creative ways.

Reem BinKaram, who is the Director of the Irthi Council, also gave an important speech today. She was a keynote speaker at a session called “Reinvesting in Heritage.” In her talk, she shared how the Irthi Council is helping women gain important technical skills. These skills help them enter global markets and start sustainable businesses using their traditional craft knowledge.

She proudly said that many of these traditional crafts have now become successful commercial projects. These crafts have been shown and praised at big international events like Design Miami, the London Design Festival, and Milan Design Week. Because of this, the world is now paying more attention to Emirati crafts and how special they are.

This year’s exhibition includes 45 companies and designers from 15 different countries. Both China and the UAE are presenting their designs through their own national pavilions. The main theme of this year’s event is interior designs inspired by nature.

This event gives the UAE a chance to proudly share its rich craft traditions with the world, and show how history and creativity can come together to make something truly special.
