UAE Attorney-General Orders Trial for Members of Criminal Gang

Post by : Elena Malik

Abu Dhabi — UAE Attorney-General Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi has mandated the referral of a criminal gang to trial before the Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal, specifically the State Security Department, for serious offenses endangering state security, public order, and societal peace.

Following an extensive seven-month investigation led by the Public Prosecution, it was revealed that more than a hundred individuals are implicated in the activities of the "Bahloul" gang. The gang is alleged to have engaged in a range of illegal activities, including the formation and management of a criminal organization, accumulating illicit funds, and distributing these proceeds among its members. The gang is also accused of exerting control and influence in their operational areas.

The gang reportedly utilizes social media to promote their criminal activities and deploys prohibited tools and weapons to intimidate and extort money from victims. These tactics are used to impose fear and collect "tribute" from their targets.

In addition to their criminal enterprises, the Bahloul gang is accused of money laundering to obscure the origins of their illegal profits. This financial maneuvering is designed to mask the illicit nature of their earnings.

Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi underscored the commitment of the Public Prosecution to uphold the law with firmness against anyone involved in criminal activities that jeopardize the safety and security of the nation. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies are diligently performing their duties in accordance with legal procedures to safeguard the country’s security and protect its residents.

The Attorney-General also urged UAE citizens and residents to promptly report any criminal activities they become aware of, reinforcing the importance of community vigilance in preventing and addressing potential threats.

This decisive action reflects the UAE's ongoing commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring justice through rigorous legal and enforcement measures.
