From teenagers to long-time collectors, the surge seen in 2025 has continued to accelerate demand for anime and pop-culture collectibles in the UAE and global markets, positioning the toy sector for robust growth in 2026. What was once considered a childhood pastime has now evolved into a wider cultural movement shaped by social trends and personal expression.

According to Hassan Tamimi, CEO of The Little Things, the UAE’s collectibles market has expanded rapidly due to a growing appreciation for storytelling, personal connection, and the fear of missing out on emerging trends. He noted that articulated and poseable figures witnessed particularly strong demand in 2025.

Brands such as SH Figuarts, Hot Toys, and ZD Toys recorded notable sales growth in the UAE, reflecting collectors’ preference for figures that allow customization, scene recreation, and creative display. Tamimi highlighted that exclusivity remains a major factor influencing buying decisions.

Limited-edition releases, blind-box collectibles, and character-focused merchandise emerged as key growth drivers, reinforcing the perception of collectibles as statement pieces rather than traditional toys. These items are also increasingly being chosen as unique gift options.

The shift is also visible among Gen Z consumers, with rising interest in plush keychains and small accessories from brands like Sanrio, Pokémon, and Monchhichi. These portable items serve as expressions of individuality, blending nostalgia with playful and customizable designs.

Established brands such as Funko continue to maintain strong fan engagement, with collectors pre-ordering releases, visiting stores early, and attending events to secure sought-after items.

Among pop-culture collectibles, LABUBU emerged as the most popular figure in both the UAE and global markets in 2025. Created by Hong Kong-born, Netherlands-raised illustrator Kasing Lung, the character gained widespread recognition among collectors. POP MART also experienced strong regional growth, while intellectual properties such as CRYBABY, SKULLPANDA, HIRONO, and DIMOO have gained popularity in recent months.

Tamimi emphasized that nostalgia plays a central role in the current market, as adult consumers with greater purchasing power seek items connected to their childhood interests.

Looking ahead, the UAE toy market in 2026 is expected to see brands pushing creative boundaries further, with a focus on interactive, customizable, and limited-edition offerings to meet evolving fan expectations.

He also pointed to the UAE’s growing pop-culture community, supported by events such as the annual Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC) and the upcoming five-day Animenia festival in February, which celebrates anime, live music, and Japanese pop culture, drawing fans and collectors from across the region.
