The Oklahoma City Thunder continued their dominant form with a convincing 122-95 home victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday, extending their winning streak to nine games. The Thunder’s performance was led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 37 points, added seven assists, grabbed five rebounds, and played a key role in securing the win.
This matchup was a rematch of the teams’ previous game on November 5 in Portland, where the Blazers were the only team to defeat the Thunder this season. On Sunday, Oklahoma City once again started strong, quickly taking control of the game thanks to a blazing performance from Gilgeous-Alexander. The star player opened the game with a steal on the second possession and followed it up with a step-back jumper just over three minutes in, giving his team a lead they would maintain throughout the match.
By the end of the first quarter, Gilgeous-Alexander had already scored 17 points, shooting six of seven from the field. His quick pace, along with two steals and an assist, helped Oklahoma City build a 21-point lead. The Blazers struggled to respond, going 0 for 4 in the last two and a half minutes of the quarter as the Thunder scored 12 points in a 12-2 run. Oklahoma City capitalized on five Portland turnovers in the first quarter, scoring 11 points off them.
The Thunder continued to dominate through the middle quarters. The Blazers never got closer than 16 points for the rest of the game, while Oklahoma City expanded their lead to as many as 36 points. Ajay Mitchell contributed 20 points off the bench, making all eight of his field-goal attempts, helping the Thunder maintain a high shooting percentage of 52.3%. Isaiah Joe added 10 points, and 12 Thunder players scored at least five points. Isaiah Hartenstein led the team in rebounds with 15, showing a strong presence under the basket.
With a 28-point lead entering the fourth quarter, neither Gilgeous-Alexander nor Luguentz Dort played, as the game was already well in hand. The Thunder improved to an 8-0 record at home and secured their 17th win in just 18 games this season, signaling a strong start for the team.
Portland struggled offensively, shooting only 37% from the field and just 25.5% from three-point range. Jerami Grant scored 21 points for the Blazers, while Deni Avdija managed 11 points but missed 12 of 16 shots. The loss marked Portland’s fifth defeat in their last six games, highlighting the team’s challenges in keeping up with the Thunder’s fast pace and high energy.
The Thunder’s victory was a testament to their teamwork, shooting efficiency, and the leadership of Gilgeous-Alexander, who continues to demonstrate why he is a key player for Oklahoma City. With a balanced effort across the squad and strong contributions from bench players like Mitchell, the Thunder remain one of the most formidable teams in the NBA this season.
