Buenos Aires has once again come alive with excitement as The Night of the Bookstores 2025 began in the city. This yearly event is one of the most popular literary celebrations in Argentina, bringing together readers, writers, publishers, artists, families, and tourists for a night dedicated to books and cultural activities. The streets of Buenos Aires were packed with people enjoying the festival atmosphere, buying books, listening to discussions, and attending performances under the open sky.
Reports shared online showed a massive crowd gathered in the city as the festival opened. According to a post shared on X, almost 200,000 people filled the streets, and book sales were expected to reach close to 400 million dollars. The event reflected how strong and vibrant the reading culture in Buenos Aires continues to be.
This year marked the 15th edition of the festival. The event took place on November 22 and ran from 6 pm until 1 am. The heart of the celebration was once again Avenida Corrientes and Lavalle, which are known as the cultural center of the capital. For the festival, bookshops moved many of their displays onto the sidewalks, creating an outdoor open bookstore experience. Visitors also enjoyed special discounts in nearby restaurants and shops, making the evening lively for both businesses and book lovers.
This year, the festival expanded to reach more neighborhoods across the city. Places like Palermo, Villa Crespo, Chacarita, San Telmo, Belgrano, Almagro, Coghlan, Villa Ortúzar, Caballito, and Liniers were added to the celebration, showing how the event has grown beyond the city center. This expansion allowed more residents to enjoy the festival without having to travel far.
The Night of the Bookstores 2025 offered a wide range of activities for people of all ages. Multiple stages were set up, each focusing on a different theme or literary interest. The Main Stage attracted the largest audience with major talks and performances. The Urgent Stage focused on journalism, investigative writing, and current events. Fans of romance fiction enjoyed readings and discussions at the Romance Novel Stage, while poetry lovers gathered at a dedicated space for live performances.
There were also special areas celebrating comic art, illustration, and zines, as well as a stage created for author talks and writing workshops. Families with young children had their own area with storytelling sessions and creative activities designed to get kids excited about reading. For those who prefer digital reading, the Digital Library corner allowed visitors to explore ebooks and audiobooks. Another relaxing area called the Audiorama gave people a chance to sit and listen to stories in a peaceful setting.
According to local media, more than 20 bookstores along Avenida Corrientes showcased new releases during the event. Many other bookstores across the city also stayed open late and set up tables outside, creating a welcoming city-wide celebration of literature. Visitors could walk from one bookstore to another, browse new arrivals, chat with authors, and take part in cultural activities throughout the night.
The Night of the Bookstores has become much more than a shopping event. It is now a symbol of Buenos Aires’ strong connection to reading, creativity, and public participation. Every year, it brings the community together in a way that celebrates imagination, art, and learning. The excitement and huge crowds seen this year show how deeply books are connected to the city’s identity and cultural life.
