MGX was established in March 2024 as a result of a strategic partnership between Mubadala and G42. Earlier in January 2024, the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC) was established under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The council was created to develop and implement policies and strategies related to AI and advanced technologies in Abu Dhabi. AIATC plays a vital role in fostering research, investments, and collaborations with both local and international partners, positioning Abu Dhabi as a global leader in artificial intelligence and advanced technology.

AIATC's initiatives, including the formation of MGX, are part of a broader strategy to solidify Abu Dhabi’s leadership in AI and advanced technology.
