On Tuesday, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched a new European weather satellite into space and landed safely on a ship in the sea.
The Falcon 9 took off from Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. It was carrying the MTG-S1 satellite, which will help scientists watch the weather better. After about 8.5 minutes, the rocket's first stage came back to Earth as planned. It landed smoothly on a SpaceX drone ship that was waiting in the Atlantic Ocean.
The MTG-S1 satellite has a special infrared sounder instrument. This instrument will collect important information about temperature, humidity, wind, and gases in the atmosphere. Using this data, scientists can make 3D maps of the atmosphere, which will help improve weather forecasts.

According to the European Space Agency (ESA), this satellite will cover Europe and some parts of northern Africa. It will give meteorologists a full weather report of the region every 15 minutes. This data will work together with information from another satellite, MTG-I, which observes clouds and lightning.
Overall, this launch will help people get more accurate weather updates in Europe and nearby regions.
