Sheikh Maktoum Welcomes PayPal's New Regional Hub in Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance of the UAE, met with Suzan Kereere, who is the President of Global Markets at PayPal.

During their meeting, Sheikh Maktoum congratulated PayPal on opening its new regional hub in Dubai Internet City. He also shared how Dubai is proud to support PayPal’s plans and hopes the company grows even more in the region. This new office will act as PayPal’s main center for operations in 80 countries across the Middle East and Africa.

Sheikh Maktoum talked about the UAE’s big dream of becoming a global leader in the digital economy. He said Dubai is working hard to build a strong financial system that encourages new ideas, builds trust, and opens doors for businesses around the world. They also talked about future partnerships in digital payments, helping small businesses grow, and improving how money can move across countries.

He explained that Dubai has strong rules and great digital systems, making it a great place for global companies to grow, especially in fast-growing markets. He said that PayPal choosing Dubai for its base shows how the city is becoming a top spot for future financial services. This move also supports Dubai’s plan, called the D33 agenda, to become one of the top four financial centers in the world.

PayPal was started in 1998 and is now one of the biggest digital payment companies in the world. It helps more than 430 million people in over 200 countries make secure online payments. In 2024, PayPal handled nearly $1.7 trillion in payments and earned $31.8 billion in revenue.
