In the deep forests of Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district, something amazing is happening. An area once known for fear and violence is now slowly changing – not because of politics or police, but because of sports. Children who once had no place to play are now laughing, running, and playing games like cricket, football, and kho-kho. And behind this change is none other than India’s cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar.
Known as the “God of Cricket,” Sachin is now helping bring peace and hope to Bastar. He has joined hands with the Mann Deshi Foundation to build 50 playgrounds in villages across Bastar. These are not just fields – they are dreams coming true for many children who never had a place to play before.
A New Beginning for Dantewada
For years, when people heard the name “Dantewada,” they thought of conflict, Naxalism, and danger. But now, that picture is starting to change. In village after village, something beautiful is happening. Villagers are building their own playgrounds – setting up bamboo goalposts, flattening the ground for running, and even making simple gym equipment using wood from the forest.

“We haven’t hired outside workers,” says Divya Sinha from the Mann Deshi Foundation. “People from 50 villages have come together. We are holding the Maidan Cup tournament on this small ground made by the villagers. When they go back, they will make similar grounds in their own villages. The government and our foundation will support them, but the real effort is coming from the people.”
Not Just Games – Life Lessons
These grounds are not just for fun. They are teaching children important values – teamwork, discipline, leadership, and how to follow rules. The playgrounds will have space for cricket, football, kabaddi, kho-kho, and athletics.
Sachin believes sports can teach children lessons that no schoolbook can. He says sports build confidence and help young people aim for big goals. Virendra Kumar Kawasi, a youth from Bade Godre village, shares, “We were taught how to measure the field, mark lines, and even make a long jump pit. I felt proud to learn these things. I wish every school had a playground. When kids play, they learn how to live life the right way.”
A Chance to Dream Again
For the tribal communities in Bastar, these playgrounds are more than just open spaces. They are bridges – connecting the people to the rest of the country. They give children a chance to dream big. A young boy from a remote village might never have thought about the Olympics – but now, because of these playgrounds and Sachin’s support, he might just believe it’s possible.
The playgrounds are bringing pride, happiness, and hope to these villages. Mothers sit on the sidelines, watching their children play, smiling with joy. One local boy, eyes shining, says, “We don’t feel left out anymore. We are also playing. We want to become something in life.”
A Silent Revolution in Rural India
This is a silent but strong revolution happening in rural India. It’s not built with machines or cement – but with mud, bamboo, belief, and the support of a man who once carried the hopes of an entire nation with his bat.
Sachin Tendulkar may have retired from cricket, but he’s still at the crease – this time, playing for the future of children in Bastar. As dust flies behind running feet and laughter fills the air, a new India is being born – one playground at a time.
