Cristiano Ronaldo Set to Return for Al Nassr on Feb 14

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to return to action for Al Nassr on February 14 against Al Fateh, ending his recent protest. The 41-year-old Portuguese star missed the last two matches, including wins against Al Ittihad (2-0) and Al Riyadh, due to growing frustration over off-field issues.

Ronaldo’s absence was reportedly linked to concerns over club management and salary delays rather than his performance on the pitch. Reports suggest he was unhappy with delays in salary payments for players and staff, which raised questions about the club’s internal organisation.

Additionally, Ronaldo was reportedly frustrated with the level of involvement from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) in the club’s football and strategic decisions. While the PIF oversees multiple Saudi clubs, Ronaldo felt Al Nassr did not receive the same support as rival teams. His frustration grew when former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema joined Al Hilal, highlighting the imbalance in resources within the league.

What changed:

Reports indicate the key issues have been resolved. Outstanding salary payments were cleared, and club executives regained authority in decision-making. Sporting director Simao Coutinho and CEO Jose Semedo, who were sidelined during the dispute, have now resumed their full roles.

Saudi media also reported that Al Nassr president Abdullah Al Majid could be removed following recent organisational turmoil, though the club has not confirmed this.

Season Performance:

Ronaldo has played 22 matches this season, scoring 18 goals and providing three assists. He is currently behind Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney, who has scored 19 goals in the Saudi Pro League. Al Nassr sits second in the league, just one point behind leaders Al Hilal, keeping the title race intense.

The Saudi Pro League reiterated that players cannot influence decisions beyond their club, with each team operating independently under the same rules. Al Nassr will also face Arkadag in the AFC Champions League Two this Wednesday, where Ronaldo has not yet appeared this season.
