Rob Reiner and Wife Michele Singer Die in Apparent Homicide

Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner, known for directing classics like When Harry Met Sally, Stand By Me, Misery, and The Princess Bride, has died at the age of 78 in an apparent homicide, along with his 68-year-old wife, Michele Singer Reiner. Authorities found the couple inside their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday after a medical aid call. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that detectives are investigating the deaths, which appear consistent with knife wounds. The family spokesperson announced the tragic loss, asking for privacy during this difficult time.

LAPD Chief Detective Alan Hamilton said no one has been detained or questioned yet as a suspect, and the investigation is ongoing. Rob Reiner, son of comedian Carl Reiner and singer Estelle Rebost, was born in 1947 in the Bronx, New York. He started as an actor, gaining fame for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in the sitcom All in the Family, earning multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

Reiner made his directorial debut with the cult classic mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap in 1984, followed by hits like Stand By Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992). His films often combined strong storytelling with memorable characters and became beloved worldwide. He also co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment, producing hits such as The Shawshank Redemption, Seinfeld, and City Slickers.

Apart from directing, Reiner acted in several films and TV shows, including Sleepless in Seattle, The Wolf of Wall Street, and New Girl, and frequently appeared as himself in comedies like The Simpsons and 30 Rock. He was a vocal political activist, campaigning for same-sex marriage, anti-smoking initiatives, and other social causes.

Rob Reiner married Michele Singer in 1989, and the couple had three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy. He was also the adoptive father of Tracy Reiner, daughter of his first wife, Penny Marshall, who passed away in 2018. Friends and peers, including Billy Crystal and Larry David, were seen at the Reiners’ residence after news of their deaths.
