Dubai: As Ramadan begins, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Dubai Municipality have issued important guidelines to help residents stay healthy during the holy month. These advisories focus on key aspects like sleep, exercise, nutrition, and hydration to ensure a balanced and smooth fasting experience.
Both authorities have shared these health tips on social media, urging people to follow them for a healthier Ramadan. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), DHA highlighted the need to build good habits during Ramadan and released a list of ‘Dos and Don’ts’ to help people maintain their well-being.

The Importance of Sleep
One of the key recommendations from the DHA is to get enough rest. They advise getting at least four hours of sleep before waking up for suhoor. This helps in maintaining energy levels throughout the day. Dubai Municipality has also emphasized the importance of sleep, reminding residents that quality sleep plays a major role in overall well-being. “Prioritize quality sleep for better health,” the municipality stated in its post.
Staying Active During Ramadan
Dubai Municipality, which oversees food safety and public health services in the city, has recommended that people stay active by engaging in at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise daily. Regular physical activity helps maintain fitness and supports overall health.
For those looking to lose weight, DHA suggests exercising an hour before the iftar. This can help burn fat more effectively. However, they have warned against working out under direct sunlight or in very hot places, as it may lead to dehydration.
What to Eat and Drink
DHA has also provided dietary guidelines for those observing the fast. They advise drinking plenty of fluids and including foods rich in vitamin E, such as nuts and fish, as these help in regenerating skin cells.
However, they have warned against overeating at night, especially before bedtime, as this can cause sleep disturbances and digestive issues like acid reflux. Fatty foods and soft drinks should also be avoided, as they can lead to weight gain and other health problems.
Dubai Municipality has also encouraged people to maintain a well-balanced diet, limiting fast food and meals that are high in fats and sugars. Another crucial point is staying hydrated. The civic body recommends drinking plenty of water between iftar and suhoor to prevent dehydration.
Advice for Parents
DHA has also provided guidance for parents on introducing fasting to children. They suggest that young children, particularly those below the age of nine, should be gradually introduced to fasting rather than completing a full fast too soon. Parents should ensure that their children’s health and well-being are prioritized during Ramadan.
With these guidelines in place, the authorities aim to help residents observe Ramadan healthily and safely while ensuring their overall well-being.
