Today, we use our phones for everything — talking to friends, taking photos, watching videos, using apps, and more. But because of all this, the phone storage fills up quickly. You might often see a message that says, “Storage Almost Full.”
If this happens to you, don’t worry. Many people face this problem. The good news is, it’s easy to fix. You don’t need to delete your important apps, photos, or files. In this article, you will learn simple and smart ways to free up space on your phone. These tips work for both Android and iPhone.
Your phone storage gets full because:
You have too many photos and videos
Big apps and games take space
You download files and forget to delete them
Apps store extra data called cache
Old WhatsApp messages, photos, and voice notes stay in your phone
You have apps you don’t use
When your storage is full, your phone becomes slow. You may not be able to take new photos or install new apps. That’s why it’s good to clean your phone regularly.
Photos and videos take the most space on your phone. Many of them may be useless, like blurry photos or screenshots.
What to do:
Open your gallery and delete bad photos
Remove videos you don’t need
Use apps like Google Photos to save photos online, then delete them from your phone
Apps like Instagram and Facebook store extra files called cache. These files make apps load faster but take space.
What to do:
On Android: Go to Settings → Apps → Choose app → Clear Cache
On iPhone: For Safari, go to Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data
This frees up space without deleting your app data.
Some apps you never use still take space.
What to do:
Look at all your apps
Delete the ones you don’t use
You can download them again anytime
You can save your files online using Google Drive, iCloud, or Dropbox. This keeps your files safe and frees up space.
What to do:
Upload your photos, videos, and documents to the cloud
Delete them from your phone after uploading
If your Android phone has a memory card slot, use it. You can store your files there instead of your phone’s storage.
WhatsApp stores lots of photos, videos, and voice notes. These take space.
What to do:
Open WhatsApp → Settings → Storage and Data → Manage Storage
Delete large files or media from chats
Turn off “Auto-download” for media if you don’t want everything saved automatically
Your phone has tools to help manage storage.
On Android:
Go to Settings → Storage → Free up space
On iPhone:
Go to Settings → General → iPhone Storage
You will see which apps use the most space
You can delete or offload apps from there
Many times, we download files and forget to delete them.
What to do:
Open File Manager or Downloads folder
Delete files you no longer need
You can make photos and videos smaller in size using apps. This saves space without deleting them.
Apps to try:
Photo Compress (Android)
Compress Photos & Pictures (iPhone)
Always back up your phone. After that, delete old files and clean up your phone.
If your phone is very slow and full, you can reset it. This deletes everything and makes your phone feel new. But back up your files first.
It is annoying when your phone shows “Storage Full,” but you can fix it easily. With these smart and easy tips, you can free up space, make your phone faster, and avoid deleting important files.
Clean your phone often, use cloud storage, and remove unwanted apps or files. A little care keeps your phone working smoothly.
So next time you see the storage full message, don’t worry. Follow these steps and enjoy more space on your phone!
