If you think love conquers all, think again! In Meerut, love now comes with paperwork. OYO Rooms, a well-known motel chain, has introduced a new policy that bans unmarried couples from checking into their hotels. To stay at an OYO in the city, couples now need to show proof of marriage.
This new rule, OYO claims, is about providing "safe experiences" and respecting local values. However, the move has left many on social media surprised, amused, and a little outraged, with users creating memes and jokes about the sudden shift in OYO’s stance.
Not the First Traditional Turn in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh has seen similar steps before. Back in 2023, during the holy Hindu month of Sawan, the state banned open meat sales for two months instead of one, aligning with religious sentiments. OYO’s recent decision seems to follow the same traditional path.
