In another match, Emma Raducanu played against Marketa Vondrousova. Raducanu started strong, breaking Vondrousova’s serve and leading 3-1. But a mistake in her next game gave Vondrousova the chance to take control. Vondrousova won the first set 6-3. Raducanu tried to fight back in the second set, but Vondrousova won 6-4, moving on to the next round where she will play against Yulia Putintseva.
Belinda Bencic, the winner of last year’s Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, returned to the court and won her match against Rebecca Sramkova. Bencic won the first set 6-2, but Sramkova fought back and won the second set 6-3. In the third set, Bencic played really well and won 6-1. She will now face Veronika Kudermetova in the next round.
Canada’s Leylah Fernandez also won her match against Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima. The first set was close, and Fernandez won it in a tie-break. The second set was just as close, and another tie-break was needed. Fernandez won the tie-break 7-0 and took the match with a 7-6, 7-6 victory.
