Drivers navigating through Ottawa should brace for potential traffic slowdowns as lane closures come into effect on Highway 417 starting Monday. This initiative is part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement project aimed at enhancing crucial infrastructure along this busy route.
Managed by Kiewit Dufferin Midtown Partnership (KDMP) and overseen by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, the closures will specifically affect the rightmost eastbound lane between Carling Avenue and the Rochester Avenue off-ramp.
Additionally, motorists can anticipate sporadic lane and ramp closures in both eastbound and westbound lanes from Island Park Drive to Kent Street. The construction zone organization is designed to adjust traffic flow, potentially prolonging travel times, especially during peak traffic hours.
The ongoing work is projected to continue until late summer and includes several key enhancements, such as replacing the noise barrier along the highway, street repairs, drainage enhancements, electrical updates, and the resurfacing of retaining walls.
This initiative is part of a larger undertaking that commenced in 2021 aimed at replacing aging overpasses along the Queensway, a major transportation route in Ottawa. Officials assert these improvements are vital for enhancing road safety, traffic flow, and long-term infrastructure reliability.
Authorities recommend that drivers prepare in advance, allowing extra time for travel and considering alternative routes when possible. Clear signage and traffic management will be employed to ensure safe navigation through construction areas.
