Nissan Unveils Strategic Shift: Fewer Models and Enhanced AI Driving Tech

Nissan has unveiled an ambitious strategy aimed at streamlining its vehicle lineup while significantly increasing the integration of artificial intelligence in its automobiles. This initiative is part of a larger plan to rejuvenate growth after facing extensive financial and operational hurdles.

The automaker intends to shrink its global offerings from 56 to 45 vehicles, concentrating on removing less successful models to enhance its profitability. This refined strategy aims to bolster Nissan's presence in crucial global markets.

CEO Ivan Espinosa detailed the company’s objective of incorporating AI-driven technology into 90% of its offerings over the long term, focusing on improving safety, automation, and the driving experience.

As part of its new product lineup, Nissan introduced fresh models, including a hybrid variant of the Rogue SUV (known as X-Trail in Japan) and an electric Juke. These developments underscore the company's commitment to hybrid and electric mobility.

With a focus on aggressive sales targets, Nissan aims to reach annual sales of 1 million vehicles in both the U.S. and China by 2030, while boosting domestic sales in Japan to 550,000 units.

The corporation is also revamping its operations, planning to reduce its manufacturing scope and cut its workforce by 15%. Concurrently, it looks to expand exports from China to regions like ASEAN, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Looking toward the future, Nissan is investing in innovative mobility technologies, such as autonomous driving systems and robotaxi collaborations. A pilot robotaxi service is expected to launch in Tokyo by 2026, representing a notable advancement in next-gen transport solutions.
