New UAE Maritime Navigation Centre Aims to Elevate Global Leadership

The UAE government has inaugurated a National Maritime Navigation Centre aimed at boosting its maritime sector coordination and global standing. Designed to streamline maritime logistics and governance, the centre aligns with the country’s vision to become a leading global maritime hub.

Modeled on recent initiatives like the UAE Maritime Cluster, the new navigation centre consolidates federal, local, and private maritime operations into a single command-and-control structure. It acts as a logistics coordination hub, research node, and digital command post—dovetailing with the UAE’s “Projects of the 50” economic diversification goals.

The Centre will house a think tank, a start-up incubator, and a database of maritime professionals and firms. This comprehensive platform is intended to attract investment, guide research and development, and offer data-driven for policy-making in shipping, ports, and blue economy activities .

UAE ports, already ranked among the top five global maritime hubs and managing 77 international terminals, will benefit from enhanced maritime tracking, data analytics, and sustainability oversight. Officials expect this improved coordination to bolster port efficiency and support their current campaign for an IMO Category B membership—a status that U.N. navigational experts recognise as evidence of maritime maturity.
