Michael Duarte, a well-known food influencer known online as "FoodWithBearHands," tragically lost his life after a confrontation with law enforcement in Castroville, Texas. The incident, which took place on November 8, ended when a Medina County sheriff’s deputy shot Duarte following an alleged threat with a knife.

According to authorities, deputies responded to an emergency call reporting a “male subject with a knife acting erratically.” When a deputy arrived at the scene, Duarte reportedly ignored multiple verbal commands to drop the knife and get on the ground. Instead, he allegedly charged toward the officer while shouting, "I'm going to kill you," prompting the deputy to fire two shots.

Duarte was immediately given medical attention and transported to University Hospital in San Antonio, where he was pronounced dead. The Medina County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Duarte had been exhibiting erratic behavior and posed a serious threat to responding Fire and EMS personnel.

Originally from California, Duarte had gained significant popularity on social media for his barbecue and grilling content. His sudden death has sent shockwaves through his fanbase and the culinary community. Reports suggest that Duarte was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident.

Alooma Media Group, Duarte’s talent agency, expressed deep sorrow over his passing. They described him as a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend. “Michael was so much more than a client to us. He was a true and loyal partner, a trusted collaborator, and above all, a remarkable person. His passion, professionalism, and creativity left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of working with him,” the agency said.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Duarte’s family with funeral costs and to help bring him back to California. The funds will aid his wife, Jessica, and their six-year-old daughter, Oakley, during this difficult time.

Michael Duarte’s sudden death serves as a somber reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the unpredictable nature of crisis situations involving law enforcement.
