Masked Man in New York Tries to Snatch Child From Father's Arms

Disturbing footage of an attempted child kidnapping has surfaced on social media, capturing a chilling moment on a Brooklyn sidewalk in New York City. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., as a father was walking with his two children when a masked man approached them.

In the video, the suspect can be seen crossing the street and quickly walking up to the family. The man lifts one of the children, a 6-year-old boy, off the ground in an apparent attempt to abduct him. However, the father, acting swiftly, pushes the man away, successfully foiling the alleged kidnapping attempt. The suspect then walks away from the scene.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the father and children were approached by the unknown individual, who tried to pick up the child and separate him from his father. Fortunately, the child was not harmed, and the incident ended without further escalation. The NYPD confirmed that the man fled the scene after the failed attempt.

On Sunday, the police apprehended 28-year-old Stephan Stowe, a neighbor of the family, who was taken into custody and charged with second-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree harassment, and endangering the welfare of a child.

In an emotional interview, the boy's mother spoke out about the incident, revealing that the trauma has deeply affected her child. She shared that the young boy, who had previously been a cheerful and confident child, has been unable to sleep and is now undergoing therapy to cope with the frightening experience. "He's very scared, traumatized. For the past two nights, he hasn't been sleeping," she said. The mother also praised her husband's quick actions and the bravery of their son, who held on tight and did not let go during the incident.

Friends of Stephan Stowe, however, have offered a different perspective. They explained that Stowe has struggled with mental illness for years and has been hospitalized multiple times for treatment. They expressed disbelief over his actions, claiming that kidnapping a child was completely out of character for him. While they sympathized with the victim's family, they emphasized that Stowe needs professional help to address his mental health issues.
