King Sihamoni of Cambodia Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer

Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni has disclosed his prostate cancer diagnosis and is currently receiving treatment in China. This news emerged in an official statement released on April 10, 2026.

At the age of 72, the king mentioned that the diagnosis followed a routine medical evaluation taken in Beijing during a health trip with his mother, Norodom Monineath.

Though he confirmed the diagnosis, the king refrained from sharing specifics regarding the severity of his condition. Medical analysts emphasize that early-stage prostate cancer is often manageable.

The news has caught public attention regarding the king’s health, although his official duties are primarily ceremonial within the constitutional monarchy of Cambodia, where he acts as a symbolic leader.

Sihamoni became king in October 2004 after his father, Norodom Sihanouk, abdicated. His father was also treated in China for prostate cancer, living until 89 years old.

Prior to his reign, Sihamoni served as Cambodia’s ambassador to UNESCO and was celebrated for his career as a classical ballet dancer.

The royal family has not announced any immediate adjustments to his official responsibilities. Analysts observe that the king leads a private life and is unmarried, without direct heirs.
