Tragic Jeep Accident in Nepal Karnali Province Leaves 8 Dead, 10 Injured

In a heartbreaking incident in Nepal's Karnali province, eight people lost their lives and 10 others were injured when a jeep carrying 18 passengers plunged approximately 700 feet down a hillside. The accident occurred on Friday night in the Jharmare area of Bafikot, Rukum West district, around 500 km west of Kathmandu, police reported on Saturday.

The jeep was traveling from Khalanga in Musikot towards the Syalikhadi area of Athbiskot Municipality when the tragic accident unfolded. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding may have been a key factor in the mishap, authorities said.

According to police, seven passengers died instantly at the scene, while one succumbed to injuries during treatment at a local hospital. The victims, aged between 15 and 30 years, were mostly young adults, making the incident even more devastating for their families and communities.

The ten survivors are currently receiving medical treatment at Rukum’s District Hospital in Salle. Local authorities are continuing investigations and have urged drivers to follow safety measures on the hilly roads of Karnali province.
