India’s top airline, IndiGo, and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), which runs the most airports in India through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, have come together for a historic new project. They are starting commercial flights from the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). IndiGo will be the very first airline to operate flights from this airport.
From the first day, IndiGo will run 18 flights every day, making a total of 36 flight movements (takeoffs and landings). These flights will connect more than 15 cities across India. By November 2025, IndiGo plans to increase this to 79 flights daily (158 flight movements), including 14 international flights. The number will keep growing to over 100 daily flights (200 flight movements) by March 2026, and 140 daily flights (280 flight movements) by November 2026. Among these, 30 flights will be international.

Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, said, “We are very proud to be the first airline to start flying from NMIA. This partnership shows that both IndiGo and AAHL are ready for smooth operations. Our plan will improve how passengers travel and support the fast growth of India’s aviation industry.”
Arun Bansal, the CEO of AAHL, said, “Having IndiGo as the first airline partner at NMIA is a big achievement for us. This airport will become a key transfer point for both domestic and international travelers. Our partnership will give passengers more flight choices and better convenience.”
Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to become one of India’s top international airports. It will offer passengers modern facilities, a great travel experience, and excellent connectivity. Its perfect location and advanced design will make it an important part of India’s global aviation network.
In the first phase, NMIA will be able to handle 20 million passengers and 0.5 million metric tons of cargo every year. When fully finished, it can handle up to 90 million passengers and 3.2 million metric tons of cargo annually.
IndiGo’s Growth and Plans
IndiGo will expand its flight network to make both domestic and international travel easier for people. The airline aims to reach more airports, making air travel affordable and convenient for many more Indians.
Having two airports in Mumbai—Mumbai Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport—will help reduce crowding at Mumbai Airport. This will give travelers a much better experience. It will also create new economic opportunities for Mumbai and the state of Maharashtra.
About Navi Mumbai International Airport
NMIA is a new greenfield international airport project, developed by Adani Airports (holding 74%) and CIDCO (holding 26%), which is a government body from Maharashtra. This airport will be India’s most modern and eco-friendly airport. Its design is inspired by India’s national flower, the lotus.
This new airport will strengthen India’s position on the world aviation map and help the country become the third-largest aviation economy by the year 2030.
