Indians in Kenya Urged to Restrict "Non-Essential" Travel Amid Violent Protests

New Delhi: India has issued a cautionary advisory to its citizens residing in Kenya, urging them to exercise extreme caution and limit non-essential movement amidst ongoing violent protests against proposed government tax hikes in the East African nation.

"In light of the tense situation prevailing in Kenya, all Indians are advised to exercise utmost caution, avoid non-essential travel, and steer clear of areas affected by protests and violence until the situation stabilizes," stated a social media advisory from the Indian consulate in Kenya.

The advisory emphasized the importance of staying informed through local news sources and monitoring updates on the consulate's official website and social media channels.

The unrest escalated dramatically in Nairobi, where reports confirmed that at least five protesters lost their lives and over 200 sustained injuries. The violence erupted after thousands of demonstrators breached security and stormed Kenya's Parliament, resulting in parts of the building being set ablaze. Law enforcement responded with tear gas and live ammunition to disperse the crowds.

Indian authorities underscored the need for citizens to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols amid the volatile situation unfolding in Kenya.
