Hyderabad Man Loses ₹12 Lakh in FedEx Scam, Case Filed with Cyber Police

In Hyderabad, a 23-year-old man has become the victim of a sophisticated parcel scam, resulting in a staggering loss of ₹12 lakh. The case has been officially registered with the Hyderabad Cyber Crimes police, highlighting the growing menace of online fraud targeting unsuspecting individuals.

According to reports, the victim received a deceptive phone call from someone posing as a representative from FedEx. The caller falsely claimed that the man's Aadhaar number was being misused in a serious criminal activity. Specifically, he was informed that a parcel containing five kilograms of diabetes medication and fifty grams of MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy) was allegedly being sent from Mumbai to Saudi Arabia using his Aadhaar details.

To intensify the ruse, the scammers impersonated officials from Mumbai Cyber Crime, leveraging a Skype video call to add credibility to their claims. During this interaction, they coerced the victim into believing that his cooperation and financial assistance were necessary to "verify his details" and clear his name from involvement in the illicit shipment.

Despite the victim's initial doubts and willingness to cooperate with any legitimate investigation, the scammers employed psychological pressure tactics, convincing him to transfer a substantial sum of ₹12 lakh under the guise of facilitating their probe and securing his innocence.

In a separate incident that has also gained attention, a man from Thane fell prey to a Tinder-related scam, resulting in a loss of ₹40,000. In this case, the victim had taken his date to a restaurant, expecting a casual and enjoyable evening. However, he was shocked when the bill arrived, totaling ₹44,829. The charges included expenses for 18 Jaggerbombs, Red Bulls, French fries, salted peanuts, four chocolate truffle cakes, and a special mix, far exceeding what he anticipated.

Upon realizing the exorbitant bill, the man sought police intervention at the restaurant, hoping for a resolution. Despite efforts, the final bill was only reduced by ₹4,000, leaving the victim to cover ₹40,000 out of his own pocket. The incident has sparked outrage and cautionary discussions on social media, with many expressing disbelief at the audacity of such scams.

These incidents serve as stark reminders of the importance of vigilance and caution in dealing with unfamiliar calls, requests for personal information, and financial transactions. Authorities urge the public to verify the authenticity of communications and seek official channels when in doubt, to prevent falling prey to increasingly sophisticated online scams.
