Hathras Stampede: Six Arrested So Far, Says Aligarh IG

In the wake of the tragic stampede at a religious gathering in Hathras, Aligarh Inspector General (IG) Shalabh Mathur confirmed on Thursday the arrest of six individuals connected to the incident. These arrests include four men and two women, all of whom were members of the organizing committee and served as 'Sevadars' during the event.

"The death toll stands at 121," IG Shalabh Mathur reported. He further mentioned that all the deceased have been identified and that post-mortem procedures have been completed. The stampede occurred during a densely packed gathering, raising serious concerns about crowd management and safety protocols at large events.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances that led to this deadly incident. The goal is to determine accountability and implement measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

IG Mathur elaborated on the actions taken following the stampede, stating, "When the stampede occurred, the six Sevadars who are now arrested fled the scene. A reward of Rs 1 lakh has been announced for the arrest of the main accused, Prakash Madhukar. A non-bailable warrant will soon be issued against him. We will also investigate whether this incident was the result of a conspiracy."
