In a grim development from Gaza, Hamas has handed over two additional bodies of Israeli hostages, signaling both progress and the continuing challenges in recovering the deceased. The move comes as part of a fragile ceasefire deal brokered by the United States.
The Palestinian group’s armed wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, stated that it has returned all the bodies it could access amid Gaza’s war-torn ruins. "The Resistance has fulfilled its commitment to the agreement by handing over all living Israeli prisoners in its custody, as well as the corpses it could access," the statement read. The organization emphasized that retrieving the remaining bodies requires specialized equipment and extensive effort due to the destruction in Gaza.
Since the ceasefire was implemented on Monday, Hamas has already released 20 surviving Israeli hostages. In exchange, Israel freed nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, marking one of the largest prisoner swaps in recent years.

The latest transfer brings the total number of deceased hostages returned to nine out of the 28 known cases. Israeli officials confirmed that the Red Cross received the two latest coffins, which were then transported to Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.
This development has reignited domestic debate in Israel, with calls for stronger measures if Hamas does not complete the handover of all remains. Some political leaders have hinted at potentially linking humanitarian aid to the return of the bodies, reflecting the delicate balance between diplomacy and domestic pressure.
As tensions persist, the careful retrieval of the remaining bodies remains a complex and sensitive operation, highlighting the ongoing human cost of the conflict in Gaza.
