If you're planning a trip to Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), get ready for a fun and amazing experience. The city has tall buildings, beautiful mosques, desert trips, fancy hotels, and a rich culture. But before you go, it’s good to know a few important things. These tips will help you enjoy your trip without stress or problems.
Abu Dhabi is a Muslim city with strong cultural values. The people are friendly, but it’s important to dress modestly, especially in malls, mosques, and public offices. Women should avoid wearing short or revealing clothes. Men should wear shirts in public.
Also, do not hug or kiss in public. This is seen as disrespectful. If you are respectful of local customs, people will treat you well.
The best time to visit Abu Dhabi is from November to March. The weather is cooler and perfect for going outside. Summer months (June to August) are very hot, with temperatures over 45°C. It's hard to enjoy outdoor places during that time.
Visit in winter to enjoy the Grand Mosque, Corniche Beach, or go for a desert safari.
Some laws in the UAE are different from other countries. For example:
Drinking alcohol is allowed, but only in hotels, bars, or restaurants with a license.
Don’t drink or get drunk in public.
Don’t take pictures of people or government buildings without permission.
Don’t use bad words or fight in public.
Breaking these rules can get you in trouble or even fined.
Getting around Abu Dhabi is simple. The city has clean and safe buses. Taxis are available everywhere and are not expensive. You can also use ride apps like Careem (similar to Uber).
If you want to go outside the city (like to Al Ain or the desert), it’s better to rent a car or go with a tour group.
The UAE is very sunny and hot. Even in cooler months, the sun is strong. So:
Drink lots of water
Use sunscreen
Wear a hat and sunglasses
Carry a water bottle
Try to stay out of the sun in the middle of the day.
Abu Dhabi is not just malls and hotels—it has many cultural places too. Don’t miss:
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque – A huge and beautiful mosque
Qasr Al Watan – The Presidential Palace
Louvre Abu Dhabi – A museum with amazing art
Heritage Village – Learn about old Emirati life
These places will help you understand the local history and culture.
In Abu Dhabi, the weekend is on Saturday and Sunday. But Friday is the most important day for Muslims. Many places open late on Fridays because people go for prayers.
So, if you want to go shopping or sightseeing on a Friday, check the opening hours first.
You can pay with a card in most places. But it's good to carry some cash for small shops, taxis, or markets. The money used is Dirham (AED). 1 US dollar = 3.67 AED.
ATMs are easy to find in malls and public areas.
If you take medicine daily, check if it’s allowed in the UAE. Some medicines from other countries are not legal in the UAE. You should:
Bring a doctor’s note
Only carry the amount you need for the trip
You can check the list of allowed medicines on UAE health websites or ask your airline.
Abu Dhabi has tasty traditional food. Make sure you try:
Harees – a wheat and meat dish
Majboos – rice with spices and meat
Luqaimat – sweet dumplings
Arabic coffee and dates
You can eat these in local restaurants or visit traditional markets like Souk Qaryat Al Beri or Al Mina Market.
