Ezeiza, Argentina – November 15, 2025: A series of powerful explosions ripped through the Spegazzini Industrial Park in Ezeiza, south of Buenos Aires, on Friday night, igniting a massive blaze and sending 22 people to the hospital, authorities reported. The incident also damaged multiple factories, including chemical and plastics plants, raising concerns over industrial safety in the region.
According to Gaston Granados, mayor of Ezeiza, the explosions affected several factories, including chemical warehouses and facilities related to agriculture and fertilisers, as well as a plastics plant, Plásticos Lago. “The explosions and fire breaking out in the different factories are huge,” Granados said. He added that the flames created a chaotic scene, and safety measures were underway to evacuate anyone nearby.
Dramatic footage on social media captured towering flames and thick smoke billowing from the industrial park, while the blast produced a shockwave that shattered windows across Ezeiza and neighboring Canuelas. Some residents reported seeing an object fall from the sky moments before the explosions, though authorities have yet to confirm the cause.
Hospital director Carlos Santoro confirmed that 22 individuals were admitted with injuries, ranging from burns to shock and trauma caused by the explosions. Emergency responders have deployed 15 fire crews to battle the ongoing blaze, which is expected to continue burning for an extended period. Fabian Garcia, civil defence director for Buenos Aires province, described the fire as “complex” and cautioned that extinguishing it would take time.
Speculation about a small plane being involved has circulated, but Mayor Granados stressed that authorities cannot confirm or deny these reports until the fire is fully under control. Meanwhile, Sinteplast, one of the factories within the industrial park, clarified that its facility was not the source of the fire. “The explosion destroyed everything, gates, ceilings, some structures, and fire pipes were blown off. Fire brigades are on the scene. It was a terrible explosion. It didn’t reach our factory, but the shockwave shook everything,” said the factory owner.
The incident underscores the dangers faced by workers and residents near industrial areas. Investigations into the cause of the explosions are ongoing, with officials promising to release more information once the fire is fully contained. Local authorities continue to prioritize the safety of nearby communities while emergency teams work tirelessly to prevent further damage.
As the fire continues to rage through the industrial park, the Argentine public and authorities remain on high alert, highlighting the critical need for strict safety protocols and rapid emergency response in industrial zones.
