The Emirates Red Crescent, in cooperation with the Humanitarian Action Cell, has distributed clothing across Yemen’s Hodeida and Taiz governorates under its Eid Al-Adha drive. For the fifth year in a row, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), working hand-in-hand with the Humanitarian Action Cell (HAC), launched a special aid campaign ahead of Eid Al‑Adha. This year, the focus was on delivering new clothing items to families in two of Yemen’s most affected regions: Hodeida and Taiz.

Reaching Those Who Need It Most

The initiative successfully reached 35,000 families—men, women, and children—who are most in need. It provided new garments to those struggling with poverty, illness, orphanhood, or forced displacement. By doing so, ERC ensured that these vulnerable families would have appropriate clothes to wear for one of the most important religious holidays in the Islamic calendar

A Community-Oriented Effort

This year’s clothing drive aligns with another ERC project underway in Yemen’s eastern region of Hadhramaut. In Al Mukalla District, sacrificial meat (qurban) was distributed to needy households to help relieve financial pressures ahead of Eid celebrations This program focused on around 1,368 low-income individuals in Hadhramaut, aimed at uniting the spirit of generosity and community support during the holy festival

Local Leadership & Partnership

The meat distribution initiative was officially launched on June 7, 2025, in Al Mukalla. It was attended by key figures, including Ahmed Salem Bazroos, Director General of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour Office for Hadhramaut Coast, and representatives from the ERC. Bazroos praised the project's impact, noting that the “Eid Sacrifice Programme” continues the UAE’s long tradition of humanitarian action in the region  He warmly acknowledged ERC’s ongoing work to ease burdens on vulnerable families, especially during important cultural and religious occasions.

During the same event, Humaid Rashid Al Shamsi, the ERC’s Development and International Cooperation Advisor in Hadhramaut, emphasized the value of solidarity during Eid—helping build community resilience and bringing light to struggling families.

Beyond a Single Campaign

These efforts are part of a broader push by the ERC to provide sustained support across Yemen. Through seasonal campaigns and ongoing relief work, the organization aims to boost living standards and foster cohesion in communities marked by years of conflict and hardship.

Why It Matters

  • Emotional impact: For thousands of families, the gift of new clothes and fresh meat from the sacrifice helps restore dignity and offers joy during Eid.

  • Economic relief: For poor or displaced households, these contributions mean real savings—helping alleviate financial stress tied to festival celebrations.
  • Strengthening social bonds: These programs reinforce unity and compassion across communities, especially in areas affected by adversity.

Looking Ahead

ERC’s Eid Al‑Adha aid efforts underscore a deep humanitarian commitment. By joining forces with local authorities like the Social Affairs and Labour Office in Hadhramaut, ERC has built a strong network to deliver timely and essential aid. Their continuing work sets an example of humanity and shared responsibility.
