Dubai International (DXB) kicked off the year with a remarkable achievement, marking its busiest quarter ever and solidifying its status as a pivotal global aviation hub and a crucial driver of Dubai's economy and the Middle East's aviation sector. During the first quarter, DXB experienced a notable surge in passenger numbers, welcoming a total of 23 million guests through its terminals, showcasing an 8.4% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge underscores DXB's allure to major markets and its significant contribution to Dubai's reputation as a premier international destination for both tourism and trade. Notably, January recorded the highest traffic at 7.9 million guests, further underlining DXB's enduring appeal and capacity to handle substantial passenger volumes.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of DXB, attributed this robust growth trajectory to various factors, including the expansion of the airport's network by its home base carriers Emirates and flydubai, which have added numerous cities in recent months. Griffiths emphasized DXB's role in bolstering Dubai's position as a global magnet for talent, businesses, and tourists, while also highlighting the airport's commitment to enhancing the overall guest experience. With a promising start to the second quarter and an optimistic outlook for the remainder of the year, DXB revised its annual guest forecast to 91 million, surpassing its previous record set in 2018.

Beyond its immediate operational achievements, DXB's contribution extends to Dubai's economic growth and tourism sector. The airport's efficient handling of increasing passenger traffic and cargo volumes contributes to the Emirate's diversified economy, supporting its position as a global business and logistics hub. With connections to 256 destinations across 102 countries through 90 international carriers, DXB plays a crucial role in strengthening Dubai's international brand and facilitating its global connectivity.
In terms of specific market performance, DXB demonstrates its readiness to cater to the travel demands of key markets worldwide. India remains the top destination country, followed by Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Pakistan. Other notable contributors include the US, Russia, and Germany. Among the top cities by passenger numbers are London, Riyadh, and Jeddah, underscoring DXB's global reach and connectivity.
Moreover, key figures from the first quarter highlight DXB's operational efficiency and commitment to seamless travel experiences. With total flight movements increasing by 8.3% year-on-year and a high load factor of 79.1%, DXB continues to manage passenger traffic effectively while ensuring operational excellence. Additionally, the airport's handling of over 26.8 million bags during the quarter further underscores its dedication to providing a smooth and hassle-free travel experience for its guests.
