Dubai, UAE – Following the devastating earthquake that recently struck Afghanistan, Dubai Humanitarian, under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched a second humanitarian airlift in less than a week. This mission demonstrates the UAE’s steadfast commitment to providing swift and effective aid to those affected by natural disasters.
The relief initiative is facilitated through the Global Humanitarian Impact Fund (GHIF), which ensures that critical supplies reach vulnerable communities promptly. The second airlift took off from Dubai early on Sunday morning, heading to Kabul, carrying 39.8 metric tonnes of essential relief items.

The supplies delivered include a variety of life-saving and essential items:
Shelter and tents to provide temporary housing for families displaced by the earthquake.
Household items, including kitchen sets and basic necessities, to help families restart their daily lives.
Pharmaceuticals to support urgent medical needs and prevent health crises in affected regions.
The total value of the shipment is estimated at over $315,350 (approximately AED 1.16 million). Authorities expect these supplies to reach more than 50,000 people, particularly in the areas hardest hit by the earthquake.
Previous Humanitarian Efforts
This airlift follows an earlier mission conducted last Monday, which successfully delivered 84 metric tonnes of relief aid on behalf of four United Nations agencies. That mission included a wide range of humanitarian supplies, addressing both immediate and long-term needs of affected communities.
These successive airlifts highlight the continuing efforts of Dubai and the UAE to respond to international humanitarian crises. Through Dubai Humanitarian, the UAE is playing an active role in the global relief effort, ensuring aid reaches those who need it most without delay.
UAE’s Commitment to Humanitarian Relief
The UAE has long been recognized for its proactive role in international humanitarian assistance. Under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai has consistently contributed to global relief efforts, providing aid during natural disasters, health emergencies, and conflict situations.
The UAE’s approach focuses on:
Speedy Response – Ensuring that relief supplies are delivered immediately after a disaster strikes.
Strategic Partnerships – Working alongside organizations like the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and UN agencies.
Comprehensive Support – Providing not only emergency items like tents and medicines but also long-term solutions to help communities rebuild.
The Role of Dubai Humanitarian
Dubai Humanitarian serves as the central coordinating body for these efforts. It facilitates the collection, preparation, and dispatch of aid, ensuring that supplies meet the most urgent needs of disaster-affected populations.
By leveraging funds from the Global Humanitarian Impact Fund, Dubai Humanitarian can mobilize resources efficiently, supporting international organizations and ensuring that aid reaches even the most remote areas of crisis zones.
The second airlift to Afghanistan is part of this broader vision of global humanitarian responsibility. It underscores Dubai’s dedication to providing aid that is timely, effective, and life-saving.
Impact on Afghan Communities
The recent earthquake in Afghanistan has left thousands of families without homes, basic necessities, or access to medical care. The relief efforts led by Dubai Humanitarian are expected to:
Provide temporary shelter for families who have lost their homes.
Supply essential household items to help families maintain their daily lives.
Ensure medical support through the provision of medicines and health supplies.
Reach over 50,000 people across the worst-affected regions.
Such support is crucial in preventing further hardship, particularly during the initial weeks following a natural disaster when communities are most vulnerable.
International Collaboration
The UAE’s relief missions are not conducted in isolation. By collaborating with organizations like the IFRC and UN agencies, Dubai Humanitarian ensures that aid delivery is coordinated, avoiding duplication and maximizing impact.
This international cooperation allows for:
Sharing of expertise and resources.
Targeted aid that reaches communities most in need.
Efficient logistics planning for transporting large quantities of relief items.
The ongoing efforts by Dubai Humanitarian illustrate the UAE’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian values. The second airlift reinforces the importance of swift response in the aftermath of disasters and sets an example for other nations in providing timely support.
Dubai and the UAE remain dedicated to continuing relief efforts in Afghanistan, with plans to monitor the situation closely and provide additional aid as required. Their approach is rooted in the belief that every life affected by a disaster deserves immediate care and attention, and that international solidarity is key to alleviating suffering in times of crisis.
Through the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the efforts of Dubai Humanitarian, the UAE has once again demonstrated its commitment to global humanitarian relief. The second airlift to Afghanistan not only provides immediate aid but also reinforces hope and resilience among affected communities.
These missions reflect a tradition of compassion and responsibility, ensuring that even in the face of natural disasters, vulnerable populations receive the help and support they need to recover and rebuild their lives.
