Dubai Future Labs (DFL) and Osaka University, under the supervision of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), have formalized a collaboration aimed at advancing research and development (R&D) in new technologies and concepts. This agreement aligns with Dubai's Research and Development Program, designed to bolster key economic sectors and foster growth opportunities through comprehensive innovation frameworks across the emirate.
The partnership involves DFL and JST's Moonshot Goal 1 initiative, which includes joint R&D efforts with institutions like the University of Electro-Communications, RIKEN, Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International, and Cyber Agent, Inc. Together, they plan to establish a world-class research laboratory focused on Cybernetic Avatar Alliance: Dubai Japan Laboratories for Cybernetic Avatar Technologies.
Key research areas will include operating multiple Cybernetic Avatars (CAs) via a single operator using large language models (LLMs), developing culturally adaptable cybernetic avatar robots, and conducting social acceptance studies on various types of CAs.

Leaders from DFL and JST convened to discuss potential joint projects under the JST Moonshot Research and Development Program, particularly focusing on Moonshot Goal 1's vision to achieve a society where human limitations of body, brain, space, and time are overcome by 2050.
Khalifa AlQama, Executive Director of Dubai Future Labs, emphasized their commitment to partnering with top global researchers and institutions to advance critical R&D areas. He highlighted the shared vision between JST and DFL in leveraging technology to solve challenges through innovation and knowledge exchange across borders.
Dr. Hashimoto Kazuhito, President of JST, underscored the agency's role in promoting science, technology, and innovation in Japan. He stressed the importance of international research collaborations to drive advancements in cutting-edge fields like robotics, digital technology, and AI, including cybernetic avatars. Dr. Kazuhito expressed optimism that conducting demonstration tests in Dubai will play a crucial role in achieving Moonshot goals and nurturing a new generation of global innovators.
Overall, the collaboration aims to push the boundaries of research and development, paving the way for transformative technologies that could redefine societal norms and capabilities globally.
