Dubai has been ranked eighth in the world and first in the Middle East in the Global Power City Index (GPCI) 2024 for the second year in a row. This annual ranking, released by Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation, shows Dubai’s growing importance as a leader in innovation, a strong economy, and global connections.
Dubai is the only city from the Middle East to make it into the top 10, proving its place as a major global hub for business, talent, and investment.
“Dubai continues to show what is possible by bringing together innovation, sustainability, and a focus on supporting talent,” said Sheikh Hamdan. “The city has built one of the best environments in the world for businesses to succeed, new ideas to grow, and people to reach their goals while enjoying a high quality of life. This achievement is a result of visionary leadership and the hard work of many people who are dedicated to excellence.”
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, said this success is the result of the forward-thinking leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Hamdan explained some of the reasons behind Dubai’s success. He highlighted its world-class infrastructure, which draws investors and skilled professionals from around the world. He also pointed out Dubai’s modern and adaptable laws, designed to support new ideas and respond to global changes. Additionally, he spoke about the strong partnerships between Dubai’s public and private sectors, which have created a space for growth and collaboration. “Dubai’s top ranking shows that we are not just following global standards; we are setting new ones,” Sheikh Hamdan said.
He also emphasized Dubai’s focus on sustainability and its efforts to secure its place as a future-ready city. “By continuing to innovate and staying committed to excellence, we are opening doors to new opportunities in every field,” he added.
Dubai is known for improving quality of life and creating economic opportunities, which has helped attract some of the world’s best talent, businesses, and investors. As one of the fastest-growing cities in the index, Dubai keeps raising the bar for urban development, global connectivity, and resilience.
The Global Power City Index (GPCI) ranks major cities based on their ability to attract people, businesses, and investments. It evaluates cities in six areas: Economy, Research and Development, Cultural Interaction, Livability, Environment, and Accessibility, offering a detailed view of their overall appeal and influence.
