The Los Angeles Lakers secured a close 108-106 victory over the Utah Jazz on Sunday night, with Luka Doncic scoring 33 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. LeBron James contributed 17 points in his first road game of the 2025-26 NBA season, showing strong performance on fast breaks and drives to the basket. James also added eight assists and six rebounds in 34 minutes, continuing to integrate back into the team after missing the first 14 games and training camp due to sciatica.
The Lakers took control in the final quarter thanks to key contributions from Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura. Reaves scored 22 points, while Hachimura added 13, helping the Lakers maintain their lead and extend their winning streak to four games. The Jazz mounted a late comeback, led by Lauri Markkanen, who scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter. Markkanen’s three-pointer capped a 17-5 run that brought Utah to 107-106. However, Doncic’s calm free throw and Keyonte George’s missed shot from the corner ensured the Lakers held on for the narrow win.
For the Jazz, George had a standout performance with 27 points and eight assists. Despite his efforts, the team could not overcome the Lakers’ strong second-half performance. Earlier in the game, Utah had briefly led 74-69 following a 16-2 run, but the Lakers responded quickly to regain the upper hand.
The Lakers’ biggest lead came late in the game during a 13-0 run that included a three-pointer from Doncic, giving Los Angeles a 98-85 advantage with just over six minutes remaining. This run proved decisive, as the Jazz could not recover in the final minutes. The largest lead prior to that was 67-58, showing that the match was competitive and closely contested throughout.
In addition to scoring, LeBron James facilitated the game well, contributing to team plays and maintaining energy on both ends of the court. His presence alongside Doncic gave the Lakers a solid combination of experience and skill, which proved key in holding off the Jazz’s comeback attempts.
Deandre Ayton scored two points in limited action before leaving the game midway through the second quarter due to a knee bruise. Maxi Kleber also had a memorable moment, scoring his 1,000th career field goal with a crucial dunk that made it 107-101 with 1:21 remaining, giving the Lakers the final margin they needed.
The Lakers’ team effort, led by Doncic and supported by James, Reaves, and Hachimura, allowed them to earn a close road win against a tough Jazz squad. The victory improves Los Angeles’ record to 12-4, while Utah falls to 5-11. Both teams showed strong performances, but the Lakers’ late-game execution proved decisive.
The game highlighted Doncic’s scoring ability, James’ leadership and return to form, and the depth of the Lakers’ roster, giving fans optimism for the remainder of the season.
