Dilip Rasiklal Doshi, the former Indian left-arm orthodox spinner, passed away peacefully in London on Monday, June 23, at the age of 77 due to a sudden cardiac arrest .Doshi made his international debut late, at age 32, yet became one of India’s most dependable spinners. He played 33 Test matches and 15 ODIs between 1979 and 1983, capturing 114 Test wickets and 22 in ODIs at a tight economy rate of under four.

In Test cricket, Doshi achieved six five-wicket hauls, including a best of 6/102. In ODIs, his best was 4/30
Beyond international cricket, he also marked his prowess in 238 first-class matches, claiming 898 wickets at an average of 26.58, and representing teams such as Saurashtra, Bengal, Nottinghamshire, and Warwickshire
A Cricketing Hero with a Broken Toe
One of Doshi’s most remembered performances was during the 1981 Test at Melbourne. Despite a fractured toe, he used ice baths and electric therapy to manage the pain—and still took five wickets to help India secure a historic win
Remembered as a Gentleman and Mentor
Doshi was influenced early on by West Indies great Garfield Sobers during his time at Nottinghamshire
