Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has achieved a remarkable milestone by generating 45.14 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity during the first nine months of 2024. This marks a 5.49% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth reflects Dubai’s rapid economic and developmental progress and DEWA’s dedication to meeting the Emirate's growing energy demand.

DEWA reported its best-ever summer gross heat rate of 7,923 BTU per kilowatt-hour (kWh), showcasing its commitment to improving efficiency and maintaining sustainable operational excellence. This achievement highlights DEWA’s efforts to ensure reliable and environmentally friendly power generation.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, stated, “We are dedicated to keeping up with the increasing demand for electricity and water in Dubai. This is driven by the Emirate’s growing population and visitor numbers. We aim to support Dubai’s strong economic performance and its goal to build the world’s best and most dynamic economy.”
He explained that DEWA’s vision aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double the Emirate’s economy over the next decade, and the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision. “We are focused on expanding and modernising our infrastructure to meet the rapid growth Dubai is witnessing. This includes enhancing the capacity of our transmission and distribution networks to provide top-quality services that are reliable, efficient, and sustainable,” he said.
As of the third quarter of 2024, DEWA’s installed electricity generation capacity reached an impressive 16.779 gigawatts (GW). Clean energy sources contributed 17% of the total installed capacity, reinforcing DEWA’s commitment to sustainability. The utility strives to use renewable energy to maintain a balanced and eco-friendly energy mix, ensuring it meets the ever-increasing energy demand in Dubai.
DEWA’s achievements are globally recognized, surpassing the performance of leading utilities in Europe and the United States in several key areas. In 2023, DEWA set a new world record in minimizing electricity Customer Minutes Lost (CML) per year, with Dubai recording just 1.06 minutes per customer. This is a significant improvement compared to the approximately 15 minutes recorded by top utility companies in the European Union.
Through these accomplishments, DEWA continues to strengthen Dubai’s global reputation as a leader in energy efficiency, sustainability, and infrastructure development, while ensuring that it delivers reliable services to support the Emirate’s growth.
