Deluge Hits Lutyens' Delhi: Politicians' Homes Flooded, MPs Assisted Amid Heavy Rain

Heavy rainfall paralyzed Delhi, causing extensive waterlogging that disrupted the lives of both ordinary citizens and Members of Parliament (MPs) during the ongoing Parliament session. A video surfaced showing Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav being carried by his staff through waterlogged streets to reach his vehicle, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also shared his ordeal, revealing that his entire home in Delhi was submerged under a foot of water. He lamented the damage caused to carpets and furniture, emphasizing the extent of the flooding that affected residential areas across the city. Despite the challenges, Tharoor managed to navigate through the inundated streets and reach Parliament on time.

The torrential rain overwhelmed the city's infrastructure, leading to clogged stormwater drains and widespread chaos. Delhi Water Minister Atishi's residence was among those severely affected, with visuals showing significant flooding outside her home. The situation prompted criticism of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for alleged negligence in maintaining and clearing drains before the monsoon season.

Earlier in the day, Delhi BJP councillor Ravinder Singh Negi staged a symbolic protest against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government by rowing an inflatable boat on a flooded street in Vinod Nagar. Negi criticized the Public Works Department (PWD) for failing to clean drains adequately ahead of the monsoon, exacerbating the waterlogging issue across several parts of the capital.

The chaotic scenes underscored the vulnerability of Delhi's infrastructure to heavy rainfall, raising concerns about the city's preparedness for such weather events. As residents and lawmakers grappled with the aftermath of the deluge, efforts were underway to mitigate the impact and restore normalcy amidst ongoing legislative sessions and public outcry over the handling of urban infrastructure challenges.
