Many families in India use metal glasses instead of plastic or steel. Copper, silver, and brass glasses are especially common. People believe that drinking water from these metals can improve health. But which one is really best for daily use? To understand this, we must look at the benefits and also the risks of each metal.
Copper glasses are very popular in Indian homes and Ayurvedic practices. When water is kept in a copper glass for a few hours, small amounts of copper mix into the water. This process is called oligodynamic effect. It can help kill harmful germs. Copper is also known to support digestion, improve immunity, and help the body produce blood cells. However, too much copper is not good. If water is kept in copper for too long or if someone drinks from copper too often, it may cause nausea or stomach discomfort. So, using copper is healthy, but in moderation. Most experts say it is safe to drink copper-infused water only once or twice a day.
Silver glasses have been used for centuries, especially in royal and traditional households. Silver has natural antibacterial properties. It can help make drinking water safer by reducing the growth of germs. Silver is gentle and does not react easily with water, which means it is less likely to release harmful substances. Some doctors say silver can support better immunity, especially for children and older people. However, silver glasses are expensive, so not everyone can buy them. But among the three metals, silver is the safest for daily use because it does not cause harm when used regularly.
Brass glasses are made from a mix of copper and zinc. Brass looks shiny and strong. However, brass reacts quickly with water and air. If brass is not cleaned properly, it can form a green layer called patina, which is not healthy to consume. Some old belief systems say brass water can help improve strength and energy, but science warns that improper use can lead to toxicity. This means drinking water from brass every day can be risky unless the glass is well-maintained and lined from the inside. Many health experts suggest avoiding direct drinking from brass unless you are sure it is coated safely.
So, which metal is best?
If we compare all three, silver is the safest for everyday drinking because it kills germs and does not cause harmful reactions. Copper is also good, but only when used carefully and limited to once or twice a day. Brass is the least recommended because it can become unsafe if not cleaned perfectly or if the glass is not lined.
In simple words, the healthiest metal glass is the one that is used carefully and kept clean. No metal gives a magic solution. Eating balanced food, drinking enough clean water, exercising, and sleeping well are still the most important steps to stay healthy.
