Orientation for the new course kicked off on September 27 at the Creative Lab, the youth-focused talent training arm of the Creative Media Authority. This facility provides extensive resources and support tailored to journalism students. Conveniently located next to CNN’s Abu Dhabi bureau at Yas Creative Hub, the venue will also host a series of weekly masterclasses led by AI experts, designed to enhance the learning experience for all participants.
As the fourth iteration of CNN Academy Abu Dhabi, this course's curriculum focuses on the challenges and opportunities artificial intelligence presents to journalists and storytellers. Students will benefit from the expertise of professionals across CNN’s global network, who will guide them through critical issues and practical applications related to AI. Topics will include verification techniques, cybersecurity, and efficiencies aimed at helping students develop essential skills for their content creation and future careers.
Becky Anderson, Managing Editor of CNN Abu Dhabi, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “Artificial intelligence presents so many fascinating and complex questions for journalists and content creators, not to mention society at large. It’s invaluable for our CNN Academicians to hear different perspectives on its potential impacts and uses. We are excited to kick off this year’s course, which features a fantastic schedule of guest speakers throughout our masterclass series.”
Mohamed Dobay, Acting Director General of the Creative Media Authority, emphasized the significance of developing local talent in Abu Dhabi as a fundamental pillar of the organization’s mission. “The development of talent from within Abu Dhabi continues to be one of the main pillars of activity within the Creative Media Authority as we aspire to become a world-leading destination for the creative industries. We are proud of the continued success achieved by CNN Academy,” he stated.
This year, 70% of the course participants are young Emiratis, showcasing the enthusiasm of the younger generation and national talent to engage with one of the leading global news organizations. With partnerships between CNN Academy and the Higher Colleges of Technology, there are plans to explore further initiatives that align with their shared goals of nurturing talent and preparing students for careers in the creative industries.
